Charles Hartke A personal biography
Hartke was born in Effingham, Illinois, on May 7, 1944. From 1966 to 1968, he served in Vietnam with the US Army. He served on the county board from 1971 to 1974 and 1978 to 1985, as well as president of the Effingham County Pork Producers and Democratic Central Committee. On February 11, 1985, Richard H. Brummer was nominated to the Illinois House of Representatives after being named a judge.
He became Assistant Majority Leader in 1997. He backed Al Gore in the 2000 presidential election. He became Illinois Department of Agriculture director in 2003 under Rod Blagojevich. Rod Blagojevich appointed William J. Grunloh to his Illinois House seat. On February 29, 2008, he resigned.
He died at 80 on April 13, 2025.
